On March 16, 2026, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage at the SAP Center in San Jose for the annual GTC keynote — an event the industry calls the “Super Bowl of AI.” Thirty thousand attendees from 190 countries. A two-hour presentation covering the full stack: chips, software, models, applications. The announcements: the Vera Rubin architecture shipping later this year, the Groq 3 LPU integrated into the rack-scale platform, the Feynman architecture teased for 2028, and a $1 trillion purchase order pipeline through 2027.[2][3]

The numbers are almost beyond comprehension. Fiscal year 2026 revenue hit $215.9 billion, up 65% from $130.5 billion — which was itself up 114% from the year before. Quarterly revenue in Q4 reached $68.1 billion. Guidance for Q1 FY2027: $78 billion. Gross margins sit at 75% — numbers you’d expect from a software company, not a hardware manufacturer. The H100 GPU costs approximately $3,320 to manufacture and sells for $28,000. That’s an 88% gross margin on the individual chip.[1]

But the numbers, as staggering as they are, aren’t the story. The story is the treadmill.

Nvidia has compressed its product lifecycle from two years to one. Hopper shipped in 2022. Blackwell in 2024. Vera Rubin in 2026. Feynman in 2028. Each generation delivers a 5–10× performance improvement. Each generation makes the previous one obsolete for frontier workloads. Each generation requires customers to upgrade or fall behind. The faster they run, the faster they need to run. Nvidia doesn’t just sell chips — it sells a compounding upgrade obligation that every AI company must service.[3]

This is the library’s first amplifying case since UC-038 — the first case about something working rather than something breaking. But every amplifying case carries the shadow of its own inversion. The treadmill powers the ecosystem. It also locks the ecosystem into a single point of dependency. Ninety percent of the world’s most advanced AI chips are fabricated by TSMC in Taiwan. The Groq acquisition was structured as a “licensing agreement” specifically to avoid antitrust scrutiny.[4] AMD just signed a $60 billion deal with Meta.[10] The treadmill runs fast, but it only runs as long as the belt holds.

The Five-Layer Stack

The stack is self-reinforcing. Better chips enable better models. Better models drive more inference demand. More demand justifies more infrastructure investment. More infrastructure runs on Nvidia hardware. The treadmill is not just fast — it is circular.

The Treadmill Effect

Nvidia has shortened its product lifecycle to 12 months. Each generation delivers 5–10× improvements. Each generation makes the previous one inadequate for frontier workloads. This creates a forced upgrade cycle that generates predictable, massive recurring revenue.[7]

The economics are stark. A Vera Rubin system drops token costs for agentic AI and inference to one-tenth of Blackwell. In training, the required number of GPUs drops to one-quarter. For customers, the math is simple: upgrade or pay 4–10× more per token than your competitor. For Nvidia, the math is equally simple: every advance creates obsolescence, and every obsolescence creates a purchase order.

The inference pivot makes the treadmill stickier. By 2026, inference accounts for two-thirds of all AI compute, up from one-third in 2023. Inference is a recurring workload — it runs continuously, not in training bursts. The Groq LPU acquisition directly targets this: by combining GPU prefill with LPU decode, Nvidia can charge up to $45 per million tokens for premium ultra-low-latency inference (versus OpenAI’s current $15/M for standard API access).[5]

The Belt That Carries the Treadmill

Every amplifying cascade carries the geometry of its own inversion. Nvidia’s dependencies are specific and structural.

TSMC and Taiwan. Over 90% of Nvidia’s most advanced chips are fabricated by a single company in a single geopolitical flashpoint. Vera Rubin uses TSMC 3nm. Feynman will require TSMC A16 (1.6nm). The Arizona fab offers partial mitigation but won’t reach meaningful capacity for years. A Taiwan Strait disruption doesn’t just hit Nvidia — it halts the global AI infrastructure buildout.

Antitrust Exposure. The Groq deal’s structure tells its own story. A $20 billion cash transaction framed as a “non-exclusive licensing agreement.” The founder, engineering leadership, and intellectual property all move to Nvidia, while Groq “continues to operate” under a new CEO. Multiple analysts described it as an acquisition structured to avoid regulatory scrutiny.[12]

The AMD Wedge. Meta’s $60 billion, five-year deal with AMD (signed March 2026) represents the first major crack in single-supplier dependency. Custom AMD MI450 GPUs tailored to Meta’s Llama models. Meta is simultaneously deploying millions of Nvidia GPUs — the strategy is diversification, not replacement. But diversification is how monopolies erode. AMD’s market share is projected to climb from 9% to over 15% by end of 2026.[10]

The Treadmill’s Own Exhaustion. $511 billion in planned hyperscaler investment for 2026. Data center occupancy at 97%. Power consumption growing 165% by 2030. At some point, the physical infrastructure cannot scale at the pace the treadmill demands. This is UC-063’s Infrastructure Plateau trigger in hardware form. The constraint is not silicon — it’s electrons, concrete, and cooling water.
